When I learned that ECLI-VIBES was facing a $637,667 annual funding cut for survivor services, my first thought was not about a budget. It was about the phone ringing late at night—and the person on the other end who needs us to answer.

For years, we have made survivors a promise: when they are ready to reach for safety, they will not have to find it alone. I intend to do everything I can to protect this work, but we cannot do it alone.

ECLI-VIBES intern and volunteer

During my time with ECLI-VIBES, I saw firsthand how much care, compassion, and dedication goes into creating a safe and welcoming space for survivors, guests, volunteers, and community members.

Working in the food pantry and building connections with guests showed me that ECLI-VIBES is about more than providing resources. It is about creating a community where people feel seen, valued, and supported.

Every employee and volunteer I met was working toward a common goal and putting in so much effort to make a difference. I am proud to have been a small part of it.

Breaking the cycle saves lives

Growing up, violence and abuse were so common that many of us believed they were normal. Some people felt they had nowhere else to go because the person harming them was also the person providing a home.

ECLI-VIBES gives people a safe place to turn. It offers an opportunity not only to find safety, but also to show children that being hurt or controlled is not okay. That can change the lives of both survivors and witnesses.

If support like this had been widely available in my neighborhood, abuse might have stopped before it shaped so many adult lives.
